Summer holidays are great!

Just thought it was a while since I updated you on the state of affairs with our little clan. As you can see from the photos Mereki is very well and still growing like the strong weed he is. He and I are off to Canada in a couple of weeks and after that we'll spend the next couple of months exploring the Swedish countryside. It's a hard life…

23rd October 2003

Mereki is doing very well. As could be expected (considering today, 23rd October, is his due date) he is now a busy little fella; trying to turn over when getting changed, climbing over Allan's shoulder and sucking everything in sight — whether actually within reach or not. He likes kissing and actually forms his lips to a tiny o to help out. In the last week or so he has been awake a lot more so we have started reading children's books to him, which he seems to enjoy. His dummy is his favourite companion which isn't such a bad thing (you'll understand if you've ever heard a tiny baby scream).

Mereki has just woken up and is lying in my lap, being a warm little lump, as I write this so I better go and attend to his needs. The photo was taken in hospital a few weeks ago. Enjoy!.

17th September 2003

We had a little boy on Saturday morning, the 13 September 2003, at 04:26. He was six weeks premature (no I hadn't packed the hospital bag...) and in a hurry to get out and explore the world, just like his parents. We have decided to call him Mereki, which is an Aboriginal word meaning 'peacemaker' or 'bringer of peace', to celebrate his Australian heritage.

He weighed 2510 grams and was 47 centimetres at birth, which was large for a baby of his gestation, so he is managing fairly well. This photo was taken on his birthday, about eight hours after birth. He has already grown and looks much happier these days. See this pic as the first instalment in the Mereki file as there will be more to follow when things settle down a little.
